About Emsworth - Sailing Clubs
Emsworth has two sailing clubs, Emsworth Sailing Club, located at the seaward end of Bath Road, occupies what was originally a sea-bathing establishment, set up around 1800. During the Victorian era sailing was adopted at the site, which led to Emsworth Sailing Club in its present form being founded in 1919 by a small group of enthusiasts. This makes ESC one of the oldest water-based activity clubs in the country. Emsworth Slipper Sailing Club, founded in 1921, is located in the old Quay Mill at the end of South Street. The Quay Mill was sold by Dittman & Malpas to the Club who refitted it as their permanent club house and opened in Easter 1978. ESSC Radio Sailing has a full racing programme as well as regular coaching training sessions. The boat of choice is the International One Metre, which is exciting and challenging to sail while still being suitable for novices. Sailing takes place on the Millpond: Sunday mornings at 10.00 – October to April Tuesday evenings at 18.00 – May – September Thursday mornings at 10.00 – All year |
