olent Male Voice Choir sings well in Waterlooville
S
The Solent Male Voice Choir were a great hit at this year’s
Waterlooville Music Festival held in St George’s Church,
Waterlooville.
“We have sung in St
Georges before” said Dave McVittie, publicity officer
and baritone with the SMVC, “it
is a wonderful venue with a great acoustics and the Festival
Organisers are well-organised and run a very successful
event”.
The concert began with a rousing rendition of Llanfair, sung
in English by the SMVC followed by a great selection of
songs. The
second half of the concert featured the Cascade Chorus.
SMVC songs included some of the more traditional male voice
repertoire, with two songs sung in Welsh.
More up-to-date highlights included Take That’s “Rule
the World” and Jeff Lynn’s “Mr Blue Sky”,
finishing the set with the Beatles “Hey
Jude!”, all arranged for SMVC by their MD Huw Thomas.
In July the SMVC have been invited to sing at the Stansted
Summer Festival, on Sunday 20th July.
The Festival
features many other musical groups during the day including:
Emsworth Concert Band, Hampshire Caledonian Pipe Band and,
of course the Solent Male Voice Choir.
Tickets for the day can be booked through the Stansted
Festival website.
In the meantime, three new members were recently welcomed
into the Choir and they will, hopefully, be well rehearsed
and able to sing with the Choir at Stansted.
New members are always welcome to join at any time,
there is no start and end to the singing season for the
Solent Male Voice Choir. Prospective new members can simply
turn up to any Tuesday practice at 7.15pm in The Pallant
Centre in Havant.
They can expect a warm welcome and an evening of fun,
laughter, and, of course, music.
