“Wilding” This Month’s Film at the Community Centre
Showing on Monday 24th
October, Wilding is based on Isabella
Tree’s 2018 memoir of how she and her husband Charlie
Burrell completely overhauled the 1400-acre Knepp
estate he had inherited in Sussex. The first thing they were
told when they took over the land was that they would never
make a go of farming it, as the soil had been impoverished
by over-intensive cultivation, so the couple decided to
experiment with returning it to the wild. They introduced
wild ponies from Dartmoor, let deer wander, and allowed
herds of pigs to roam freely (to the disapproval of their
neighbours). All their cows and sheep live outdoors all year
round with little husbandry.
This is a beautiful film,
with stunning camerawork filmed in the
golden hour or as the sun rises on the misty landscape – and
the fabulous wild-life photography that captures intimate
portraits of the animals that have thrived after
introduction at Knepp (turtle doves, beavers, storks)
A heartwarming film bringing GOOD NEWS and great happiness.
