Coming up Gigs: Presented by Wemsfest July - September
|
Comi
As the temperature gradually drops
we’d like to remind you of some super-cool gigs coming up in
July and early September.
But firstly a huge thanks for
supporting our shows so far this year and in particular the
ambitious Surtierra Touring Project which brought together a
60-piece choir, string quartet, and a 6-piece Anglo-Chilean
folk group for 4 outstanding performances.
The delightful ‘Havana Bar’ (behind
Marks & Spencer in East Street, Chichester), is a unique and
extremely atmospheric venue with brick-vaulted ceilings
going back at least 200 years to when it was reputed to be a
wine cellar for a very large house.
Blue Rose Code on 17/7
is sold-out but there are still tickets available for
Barry ‘The Fish’ Melton and his band on July 29th.
Barry’s one of the surviving members of Country Joe &
The Fish, and a veteran of the original Woodstock music
festival.
You’ll be in the presence of history – and the music from
him and his all-star band is exemplary.
The same venue hosts the totally
quirky Max & Veronica from Italy on 2/9.
They astounded a Chidham audience last year with
their wonderful mix of country blues, ragtime, hokum,
jugband and rural music from the 1920s and 1930s played on a
wide range of instruments.
Very different and very entertaining !
Le Vent du Nord make a welcome
return to St. James’ Church, Emsworth, on 19/7.
This Québécois 5-piece band are real road warriors
and how they find the time to record so many award-winning
discs is beyond me.
Their show is Entertainment with a capital ‘E’ and
cannot be recommended highly enough.
Our Autumn Season is also onsale
with musicians from all over the British Isles, Cuba, Spain,
and the Caribbean lined up for your enjoyment.
The 9th Emsworth Beer, Cider & Wine
Festival will be going ahead on 19-21 September, despite the
recent fire at Emsworth Community Centre. If you or your
company would like to sponsor a barrel, please contact
adwemsfest@gmail.com.
Tickets are available from
Bookends, and Harbour Records – both in Emsworth – and
online through
wegottickets.com .
