A
Genealogical Enquiry from
Victoria Australia
Hello, my name
is Helen and I live in Victoria Australia, during the past
12 months that we have been in COVID lockdown off and on, I
have taken the time to research my Ancestors in England.
I am currently researching my “Hallett” family. I have
been sent a copy of a newspaper article in the Hampshire
Chronicle dated 12 January 1818. It appears to be a
type of advertisement for a Dr James Hallett (who is my
ancestor). I am currently trying to find out more
information about him. In this advertisement he says
that he can be consulted “at his house Emsworth, near Mr
Tollervey’s mill”. I believe at this time he lived at
No 8 Halfway-houses Portsea. I have just found and
read an interesting story about Mr Tollervey and his mill.
I also believe that
his sons Job, John & James Jnr worked with him as well in
some of his dispensaries.
I would be most
appreciative if you could direct me to where I might find
any information on Dr James Hallett. I don’t believe
he was a real Doctor, but more likely a druggist although he
did call himself Doctor.
