Environmental Issues to be discussed at ERA
public meeting
Part
of the ERA Quarterly General Meeting, provisionally
scheduled for 7.30 p.m. on Monday 18 October, will be
devoted to some of the environmental issues facing Emsworth
and the surrounding areas, including Chichester and
Langstone Harbours.
We are inviting members of the local groups who will
showcase their efforts in improving certain environmental
problems facing the Emsworth area. Using display boards and
visual presentations, along with a brief report will enable
ERA members and the public to get a brief overview of the
environmental threats.
These threats include:
• Increased traffic and pollution along the A259 passing
through and around Emsworth due to overdevelopment to the
west of the Harbour/ South Downs corridor.
• The downgrading of the Harbour areas’ AONB by Natural
England.
• Loss of local habitat for flora and fauna, including local
bat species.
• Over-abstraction from river and ground-water sources.
• Pollution of the harbours through under-capacity of the
three local sewage treatment works.
• Vast increases in the volume of litter, etc. pollution in
the Emsworth town centre area.
The date and venue of the meeting will be confirmed to ERA
members and the public later in the year. If there are any
other environmental groups willing to provide display boards
at the meeting, please contact Chris Fuller:
