Wed 1-Wed 29 Sept Terror Sailing
Trip
Come aboard the restored Victorian oyster boat Terror for a 2 hour
sailing trip from Emsworth. £12.50 adults, £5 children. To book and for

Thur 2 Sept Romans in the Harbour - In
partnership with Fishbourne Roman Palace
2pm / 3 hours
Fishbourne Roman Palace museum will be open to look round before we gather
up for a talk on finds found in the Chichester Harbour area by Rob Symmons,
Curator. Then, afterwards, we will leave for a two mile walk along the
harbour shoreline, stopping at points of Roman interest, to the Harbour
Education Centre at Dell Quay where we will finish with refreshments. Free
minibus ride back to the start.

Sun 5 Sept Shoreline Geology Walk: West
Wittering
2:30pm / 2½ hours
A 2 mile (3 km) stroll to and along the shoreline taking time to look at
local geological features. With local geology enthusiast David Bone.

Fri 10 Sept Heritage Open Days: Smuggling
in Bygone Chichester Harbour
2pm / 1½ hours
A heritage-themed talk on local smuggling in bygone times by Linda Newell of
Emsworth Museum finishing with complimentary refreshments.

Sat 11 Sept Bat Walk
8pm / 2 hours
A walk of up to 3 miles (5km) at nightfall through the marina area, the
woods at Salterns Copse and along the harbour shoreline, taking time to look
out for and listen to bats using bat detectors. Bring a torch. Safety
briefing 8pm prompt.

Sun 12 Sept Solar Boat Trip and Walk
1pm / 1½ hour boat trip and 1 hour walk
Explore the harbour onboard the solar-powered
Solar Heritage. Leave the boat at Chichester Marina and then walk 3 miles
(5km) through harbour countryside back to the start. Dress warmly and bring
refreshments for the boat trip.

Wed 15 Sept Harbour Creekies: The
Chichester Harbour Trust
10am / 1½ hours
An indoor session in the warmth and dry of the Education Room at the
Lifeboat Station on Hayling, hearing about the role of the Chichester
Harbour Trust in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Trust now owns
200 acres of land in the AONB and works with the community to protect the
natural landscape.
Fee: £2 on the day (£1 to RNLI) to include refreshments

Sat 18 Sept Itchenor Walk
10am / 2 hours
A 4 mile (6 km) circular walk of the Chichester harbour shoreline and
countryside at Itchenor.

Sun 19 Sep Beach Watch 2010 – Cobnor
11am / 2 hours
Join the national event organised by the Marine Conservation Society to
survey and collect shoreline litter. Wear old clothing, stout shoes/boots
and bring waterproof gloves if you have them (spares provided). Bring a
snack and flask for a short break. Parking by kind permission of Cobnor
Estates.

Thur 23 Sept Sandy Point Stroll
10am / 2 hours
A stroll around Hayling Island’s Sandy Point Nature Reserve looking at the
distinctive plants and animals of the coastal heath and sand dunes. With
Hampshire County Council’s Countryside Rangers (tel. 02380 402534).

Sat 2 Oct From the Cathedral To The
Church Walk
10am / 2 hours
A 4 mile (6km) linear walk from Chichester Cathedral to the church in Bosham,
passing through a variety of landscapes. Pub and cafés in Bosham. Return
independently to Chichester by public bus (bus times will be available at
the start). Be prepared for muddy paths.

A stroll around North Common to look for migrant birds and a transfer to
Gutner Point to view the high tide roost. Bring binoculars. No dogs please.
With Hampshire County Council Rangers (tel. 02380 402534). Parking is
limited for this event so BOOKING IS ESSENTIAL, contact the Rangers direct.
Sat 16 Oct Channel Hopper Walk
9:30am start / 7 hours
A 14 mile (22km), walk linking Havant with Chichester and the four main
channels of Chichester Harbour in between. Bring a packed lunch, snacks and
footwear for muddy tidal paths. Return to Havant independently by bus or
train (information will be available at the start).

Under the guidance of professional sculptors Elaine and Ganesh Kings create
a harbour fish in willow. For all abilities and ages. Materials supplied.

Tue 26 Oct Little Cockles: Hedgehog Homes
10am start / 2 hours
A fun session outdoors for families with children up to 5 years old. Today
we will be exploring the oak woodland of Salterns Copse and the shoreline at
Copperas Point. Bring a snack for a break and a small bucket for any finds.
No dogs please. For very young ones a carry harness is recommended rather
than a pushchair.

Thur 28 Oct Second World War Pillbox
Modelling
10am / 4 hours
A special opportunity to visit a Second World War pillbox on Thorney Island
by kind permission of the Ministry of Defence followed by a creative session
in our classroom making a model of the pillbox. Bring a digital camera to
record the pillbox if you have one. We will gather up at the classroom and
travel to Thorney Island by minibus. Bring outdoor gear and a packed lunch.

From the warmth and dry of a classroom, learn about the birds in Chichester
Harbour and why many thousands come to the harbour for the winter, and an
opportunity to do some bird watching afterwards. Bring binoculars if you
have them.

Wed 17 Nov Harbour Creekies: The Rise and
Fall of Emsworth Oysters
10am / 1½ hrs
A talk given in the warmth and dry of our classroom by John Tweddell for the
Emsworth Maritime and Historical Trust on the history of the, once
prosperous, oyster industry based in Emsworth. It is a story of substantial
business growth, ingenuity, and finally, and sadly, a catastrophe.

Sun 21 Nov The Joan Edom Bird Walk
10:30am / 2 hours
The first bird watching walk of the season held in memory of the harbour’s
first conservation warden, Joan Edom, who held bird walks at this time of
day on winter Sundays for many years. We stroll along the harbour shoreline
taking time to observe and identify the birds. For beginners to experts.
Dress warmly and for muddy conditions and bring binoculars. No dogs please.

Thur 25 Nov Sandy Point and Black Point Bird
Watching

A stroll around Sandy Point Nature Reserve and Black Point taking time to
look for and identify the harbour birds. With Hampshire County Council’s
