Curtain to rise on children’s drama classes

A DRAMA school is offering free trials to children interested in joining one of its new classes.
Light UP, which already runs acting classes for youngsters in several locations across Hampshire, is bringing its weekly sessions to children in Emsworth.

Hour-long classes aimed at youngsters aged four to seven will run every Monday during term time from October 30 at the Emsworth Community Centre.

Older children, meanwhile, can take advantage of a new style of class – Light UP Academy – aimed at budding young professionals aged eight to 16-year-olds.

The two-hour Light UP Academy class, also running after school at the Emsworth Community Centre on Mondays, will offer a taste of drama school training and what it’s like to work in the industry. The sessions will include actor training workshops from visiting industry professionals, rehearsals for our performances, and the chance to earn professional qualifications.

Light UP’s director, Rosanna Sloan, said: “We want children to reap all the benefits that drama can offer them – to Light UP their confidence and imaginations – and we do this by offering affordable acting classes, taught in a fun and supportive environment.

“By offering a free trial at one of our new classes in Emsworth, we hope to encourage even more children to develop an interest in the performing arts.”

Light UP, a not-for-profit organisation, is the education arm of the professional theatre company Unexpected Places.
