25 Years of the Solent Forum

Features: A talk onboard the Solar Heritage, our solar powered boat, by Richard Austin, Manager of our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Hear about the special qualities of Chichester Harbour and the wider Solent and the partnerships (harbour authorities, businesses and user groups) that are linked up through the Solent Forum for a greater understanding of this protected area.  The Solent Forum celebrates its 25th year this year.  Dress for being on the water.

Meet: outside Harbour Office, Itchenor, PO20 7AW. Pay and display parking in the village.

Walks

Fri 5 May 10am 2hrs
Harbour Creekies: West Wittering to Ella Nore Point

Features: A two mile circular walk via Ella Nore Point with a view to East Head on our return. 
Fee: £5 on the day to include complimentary refreshments (free to Friends of Chichester Harbour, bring membership number - to join click here).
Meet: Village green by the public toilets, Pound Road, West Wittering, PO20 8QP. Roadside parking.

Harbour Hares: Thorney Island

Features: 7 mile walk of the Thorney Island shoreline with stops for coffee and lunch breaks with excellent views of the Harbour, bring your own elevenses and lunch.

Bird Song

Features: Listen to and learn the songs of birds in the hedgerow and reeds.
Fee: £5 on the day.

Features: Listen to and learn the songs of birds in the hedgerow and shoreline woodland.
Fee: £5 on the day.

Photography

Sat 13 May 11am 3hrs
Photographing East Head

Features: Photography with tuition from professional Paul Gonella of the sand dunes, beach, the entrance to Chichester Harbour and the Solent.  Bring enough camera batteries and memory cards for the 3 hour session.
Fee: £20 per person.  Booking essential online or on 01243513275.
Meet: by the gate at the far end of West Wittering beach car park, PO20 8AJ.  Parking fee on entry to the car park will apply.

 

Family Events

Sun 28 May 11.30am 2½hrs
Introduction to Shoreline Fishing

Features: A talk and demonstration by local fisherman Ganesh Bruce Kings followed by having a go at fishing from the quay.  In partnership with Apuldram Fishing Club. Bring your own fishing gear or share ours (please let us know in advance).  Please remember to dress for sitting outdoors.
Fee: £5 per person fishing  to include bait. Booking essential online or on 01243 513275.  Other family members £3 on the day, to include refreshments.
Meet: Harbour Education Centre, Dell Quay, PO20 7EE. Roadside parking.

Tue 30 May 10am 2hrs
Spring Colour Hunt for Families

Feature:  A stroll along the Cobnor sea wall collecting colours of Spring on special rainbow-coloured record sheets.
Fee: £5 per family (up to 4 people) on the day.
Meet: Meet in the free Cobnor Farm Amenity Car Park, Chidham Lane, Chidham, PO18 8TD

 

Solar Heritage Boat Trips

Solar Heritage is a 14-metre solar powered catamaran. She can carry up to 50 passengers.

The boat is open-sided for unimpeded views so warm clothing and wet weather gear is advised. There is a toilet onboard and the boat is fitted with a wheelchair lift.

Trips depart Itchenor this month.  Please wait on the viewing platform in front of the Harbour Office 15 minutes before departure time and the crew will collect you. Please park in the pay and display car park PO20 7AE.

Harbour Discovery - all trips depart at 11.30am and are an hour and a half in duration

Fee: £8.50 adults / £3.50 child up to 16 years
